Dear Owner,

The board recently sent out an email urging all homeowners to opt in to electronic communication. The rule allowing communication through electronic means was adopted in 2015.  Everyone has received emails from the association in the past. No rule vote is necessary.

The board is now secretly trying to push through electronic voting without actually telling you the truth. In their letter under paragraph #4, “[a] signature transmitted by acceptable technological means satisfies “any requirement for a signature under the Association’s Declaration of Condominium or a provision of the Illinois Condominium Property Act.”

The board is trying to get you to agree to conduct your business electronically, including voting, as the Illinois Condominium Property Act requires you to opt in with a written authorization.

What does ‘opting in’ mean to you?

You may not know if someone has submitted a vote for you. There is no means to check whether the owner voted or someone completely unrelated to the unit voted under a fake email. We’ve all received ‘fake’ emails from our friends who are in trouble in Nigeria.  Remember, also, Velappan Pillai and Mark Ennsmann are computer programming experts.

You are giving up your right to make sure your vote counts.  Don't fall for this trick.

Send an email to service@advocatepm.com  to opt out of electronic voting.  Use the following:

I, ________________, owner of unit ________________________, opt out of electronic voting and require the association to send me a paper proxy and ballot.
